Black Liberation Is A Groove

Soul-filled music is my love language. It is one of my teachers, one of my healers. It’s songs in the key of rhythmic vernacular, poetic liberation, ahh… and the groove of black love! It’s the sweet spot of my adoration for black people, blackness, and black achievement. Can’t nobody do it like an Aretha wail, the joyful way Stevie centers us, or how the Pulitzer Prize Mr. Lamar can urge us to grind for knowledge. It’s simply the magic within us. It’s the response to Nina’s command for artists to “reflect the signs of the times”. These are artists of our ancestor’s wildest dreams, and they put “a joy inside our tears”.

Check out the Spotify playlist, Liberation is A Groove, I created for us, for this Black History Life. Enjoy a jam session through the generations. The struggle is real, the love is good, and the beat goes on and on. Happy Black History Month, Black Now-story, Black Every Damn day!

Thank you for gathering here.
