#OFF DUTY FOR A NECESSARY BREAKDOWN

“I WONDERED IF WE FELT THE SAME WAY?

IF WHAT I FELT ON WEDNESDAY, THE MORNING AFTER THE ELECTION IS WHAT YOU FELT? AND BY ME… WE…YOU… I MEAN BLACK WOMEN. IF THE EMOTION AND EXPECTATIONS YOU HELD IN YOUR BODY ON TUESDAY, DIED WITHIN YOU ON WEDNESDAY MORNING, NEVER TO SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY. I WONDERED ABOUT YOU. AS YOU PICKED YOURSELF UP AND SWALLOWED YOUR TEARS, KISSED YOUR LOVES, AND PUSHED YOUR FRUSTRATIONS TO THE BACK OF YOUR MIND AS YOU HANDLED YOUR BUSINESS, I WAS WONDERING HOW YOU WERE HOLDING UP.

TO THE BLACK WOMEN AND MEN WHO STAND IN THEIR KNOWLEDGE, CREATIVITY, AND THEIR EXCELLENCE, I WAS WONDERING HOW YOU WERE DOING. WAS IT JUST ME? OR DID YOU FEEL THAT LOSS JUST THE SAME?”

The OFF DUTY collection highlights the necessity of taking a break, an essential act of self-care in a society that often ignores the contributions of those who support it. This is a campaign of resistance. A necessary breakdown of priorities and purpose, and not an excuse to give in. The revolution will not be televised honey, because the revolution is within you. So, rest and offer retreat for your spirit, your land, and your community.

Hey
It's me
I'm calling
To schedule
A nervous
No
Make that necessary
Breakdown
I won't be answering
Anything
I'll be so busy
With my knees on the ground
And my hands up towards the clouds
Confessing out loud
Confessing out loud
I ain't
To proud
To say I'm slipping
So I'm calling
To schedule
A very necessary
Breakdown

Leave me alone
Now
